September - Salt Lake City, Yellowstone, Glacier and Olympic National Park

This was our first month on the road. We saw so much in such a short amount of time! I was definitely rusty getting back into the swing of photography, and I am still getting reacquainted with my camera. We traveled through five states, visited three national parks and various state parks.

Salt Lake City was a pleasant surprise. The down town area was nice along with the many Mormons eager to help us. Antelope Island was picturesque with most of the activity coming from the flies who tried to make our trailer their home. Dave took time to float in the Great Salt Lake.

Yellowstone National park offered something for everyone. I loved the colors of Geyser Basin pools, while Dave and Ava loved the large waterfalls throughout the park.

We stayed at our first Hipcamp, Cow Dog Ranch, in Boulder Montana. This was a perfect starting point for various day trips. Through our day trips we discovered Helena, Montana. Helena was one of our favorite little towns.

Glacier National Park offered sweeping views and crystal clear lakes. The drive through Montana with its many lakes and small towns was spectacular.

When we arrived in Washington we stayed at another Hipcamp in the middle of an apple Orchard, Hidden acres Orchard, in Green Bluff. We were able to pick apples from our front door, walk to live music and eat fresh pumpkin doughnuts for breakfast.

Olympia, Washington was another wonderful town full of wonderful restaurants. We enjoyed Clam Chowder for dinner on the boardwalk over looking the Budd inlet, and the next day lunched on freshly prepared Ramen. We were blessed with the luck to see three Orcas in the water while kayaking.

Olympic National Park, is by far my favorite National Park. The energy from the amazing huge old trees, and the power of the Pacific so close, is incredible. The rain forest is awe inspiring- my pictures could not capture the beauty of it. Ava seemed to be in her element with the cool rainy climate. Dave loved it, but being a desert rat, four days of constant heavy rain was a bit much for him.

We ended the month in Sequim, Washington with a view of Sequim Bay.

As we are getting the hang of life on the road we hope to be able to slow down a bit in the future, and take a bit more time to enjoy the beauty around us.
